Ah, there they go again: The DaVinci Code!

I have never seen a group of people more up in 'arms' over a subject than Mr. Brown's book The DaVinci Code and the subsequent movie, bearing the same name and starring Tom Hanks. The ferver has gotten to such heights that I saw televangalists begging people to send money so they could fight the evil; several referred to it as deception of magnamimous proportions.

To begin: We wouldn't be having ourselves in this bunch if the Christian world was following its road map but even more importantly the church should know that it is futile to close the barn door after the horse has bolted.

Mr. Brown's book is simply the latest thing in the line of fearmongering used by our church leaders to keep their converts in line: sort of the tactics used in our civil realm; always changing the threat level, up-down and back up again but to what avail?

Mr. Brown's book happened because the christian world broke a couple of rules namely the second commandment: without repeating the words verbatun, Exodus 20:4-6 informs the people against making graven images. By allowing paintings, status and other momuments to thrive; even to the point of giving them safe haven in our holy buildings. DaVinci paintings made fertile ground for Dan Brown.

Christians broke the rule. Dan Brown capitalized on it.

Why are we griping?

The second point about The DaVinci Code that the church need to remember can be found in Acts 4:34-40. This time I'll repeat the words verbatum:

34Then stood there up one in the council, a Pharisee, named Gamaliel, a doctor of the law, had in reputation among all the people, and commanded to put the apostles forth a little space;

35And said unto them, Ye men of Israel, take heed to yourselves what ye intend to do as touching these men.

36For before these days rose up Theudas, boasting himself to be somebody; to whom a number of men, about four hundred, joined themselves: who was slain; and all, as many as obeyed him, were scattered, and brought to nought.

37After this man rose up Judas of Galilee in the days of the taxing, and drew away much people after him: he also perished; and all, even as many as obeyed him, were dispersed.

38And now I say unto you, Refrain from these men, and let them alone: for if this counsel or this work be of men, it will come to nought:

39But if it be of God, ye cannot overthrow it; lest haply ye be found even to fight against God.

40And to him they agreed.

If The Davinci Code is lies; then why are we fighting so strenuously against it?

We haven't fought this hard against the other lies. Why this one?

Surely there are other egregious lies. Could it be, this one is close to home?

As for me, a firm believer in the Seventh Day Sabbath: I say, whatever!
